Andy
I work in the Scottish Office in Leith, Edinburgh as a civil servant. I help to collect statistical data from the 8 police forces in Scotland on injury road accident data.
My hobbies are swimming, cycling, videography, going to the cinema, hill walking and using my Amiga.
My Favourite Computer - The Amiga
The reason I bought my Amiga 1200 was that I was not happy with the basic titles which were provided by my camcorder for the videos that I took. I then read in one of my camcorder magazines that the best computer to buy for creating titles was an Amiga. At the time the main advantages that it had over the PC were that it was cheap, expandable and best of all, pictures could be transferred to a video recorder with a simple audio lead.
Although I have to use a PC at work, I have been using my Amiga at home
for about 3 years now and in that time I have come to the conclusion that,
overall, I much prefer it compared to a PC. The technology may be dated
but I find that the operating system is much more friendly and now that
I have a modem I find that there is very little that I cannot do that the
PC can. It has not been an easy 4 years with the Amiga as when I first
aquired it, commodore were starting to go into liquidation. Viscorp, then
Escom tried to take over the Amiga and when Escom folded it eventually
passed over to Gateway. It now looks as if Gateway who have set up Amiga
International and Amiga Incorporated are going to redevelop the operating
system for use in a new Amiga. However, it will not be available until
about Christmas 2000.
However, in the meantime, even although another magazine(CUAmiga) has
recently fallen by the wayside, and software developers are becoming
fewer, there still remains a hardcore band of loyal Amigans who are
prepared to stick it out until a replacement machine comes along to
rescue us from the wilderness.
Well, we are barely into the 21st century and the latest news is that
Amino (now known as Amiga Incorporated) are now in charge of the
future of the the Amiga. Ex-Gateway employees Bill McEwen and Fleecy
Moss are the head bosses of this new company and once again have big
plans for our beloved machine......
